De Linie, a patchwork of forests, marshes and meadows, managed by vzw Durme and grazed by donkeys. The name refers to the Bedmar Line, an 18th-century line of defense that was supposed to protect the area from a 'State' attack from the Republic of Holland during the War of the Spanish Succession. The Line ran from Nieuwpoort to the Maas and consisted of forts, redoubts and canals. You will also find some remnants of the latter here along the Liniewegel, although most of them are today richly camouflaged with natural greenery.

Hunting along the Moervaart.
The Moervaart connects the Canal from Ghent to Terneuzen and the Durme. Today the canal has little economic significance and is only used by pleasure boats. The towpath next to the winding Moervaart makes you dream away. Don't forget to pay attention to the Lokerse Moervaartmeersen. These lakes are a paradise for water birds. A path to find peace and leave all your twists behind in the Moervaart.
