Wilschdorf was probably built around 1150 and was first mentioned in 1242 as Ranis maius (Groß-Rähnitz). In 1279, Wilczdorf was mentioned for the first time in an old document. The name means place on Wolfsbach and combines Slavic and German elements. But other derivations are also discussed.

Welcome to Altwilschdorf! Corded ware and Bronze Age grave finds suggest that the area was already settled around 3,000 BC, but the village with its green lanes was not first documented until 1242. Initially known as Ranis Maius (Slavic for Greater Rähnitz), less than a hundred years later, the name Wilesdorf was adopted, which roughly translates as "place on the Wolfsbach" or "village in the Wolfsholz." Despite industrial development, Wilschdorf has retained its rural character to this day, as you can see from the farmhouses and half-timbered houses.
