The garden city Hellerau was founded in 1909 and is considered the first garden city in Germany. The founding of the garden city goes back to the furniture manufacturer Karl Schmidt, who wanted to harmonize work, living, culture and education and offered an alternative to living in the city. The idea for this originated previously in England and has also been copied in other areas. The Hellerau community association has put up information boards in many places so that you can discover the garden city of Hellerau yourself on a short walk.
