Vaassen has dedicated the first statue to a man of the kind for whom statues are not usually erected. In this case it concerns the merchant Kleine Willem, a colorful figure, who at the time roamed the streets of Vaassen and the surrounding area every day with matches, a commodity in which he specialized.
He spread light not only with his matches, but also with his religious songs. He even made it into the columns of the church press.
