Hiking

Extinct in Central Europe since the end of the last Ice Age, the Romans introduced fallow deer to Central Europe about 2,000 years ago as a cultic sacrificial animal. In the High Middle Ages, a fallow deer enclosure in the Burggarten was a coveted treasure and the rulers of absolutism hunted fallow deer as large game in large game grounds reserved only for the nobility.
