In the Harz Mountains - but also in general - this tunnel was usually built as an inherited tunnel, i.e. it was granted special rights. A water solution tunnel was driven into the mining area from a starting point that was as low as possible, often far outside the pit field. Therefore, the mouth hole was often in a nearby valley or even on the edge of the mountains. For this reason, these tunnels also reached a considerable length in many cases.
