The castle complex is on the way to the Billequelle and is only a ruin. Unfortunately, the access had been closed for a long time due to extensive restorations and with it the way to the Billequelle - but now the way is currently free again. In the past, apart from the hill and a few stones, there was nothing to be seen of a castle - now attempts have been made to partially reconstruct the castle's round tower with large field stones. I am unable to judge whether this has really worked out well ... it now looks much too bright and new for an old castle - hopefully it will age a little over time.
The only public path leads from the castle to the Billequelle. The small bridge there is still closed, but you can walk / push past it.
The slab path that leads past the source ends in a dead end and back it leads over a private property, where a farm dog takes good care and "intruders" bark properly. So you have to go back past the old castle.

Linau Castle was a three-part medieval castle. On the middle hill, the main castle, there are remains of a round tower with 3 m thick walls.
A castle "Linowe" was first mentioned in 1291. At that time the complex, known as the "robbers' nest", was owned by the aristocratic Scharffenberg family and was destroyed.
Possibly it was the "Schlossberg" near Linau-Oberteich. After the rebuilding here at this point (1308) the Scharffenbergs left the castle in 1345, but recaptured it in 1346 and feuded the land again. Through an alliance of the Duke of Lauenburg, the Counts of Holstein and Schauenburg as well as Hamburg and Lübeck, they were finally expelled in 1349 after a three-week siege.

Today we visited the reconstructed castle.
The reconstruction probably only affects the old keep, which was built a few meters thick with field stones.
We would not have expected the castle itself to be here, but it is worth a short detour.
Times must have been quite dangerous here back then, since some old castle ruins such as Cecilieninsel and the other castle ruins next to Cecilieninsel are also there.
Incidentally, the way to the farm dog was blocked off, which means that it is no longer possible to get there.

Next to the castle there are some ponds where fish was/is bred. If you want to enjoy the view, you can eat in the pond restaurant. But I don't know if this is still open at all, since there was no card on the house.
