The Protestant town church of St. Cecilia, which has been closed since 1974, is one of the three historic Christian church buildings in Alsfeld. The oldest parts of the neo-Romanesque gallery hall church with Romanesque tower date from the 13th century. A new nave was built in 1864. After the organ caught fire in 1974, the church was no longer used for worship. The organ remains were removed from 2013 and brought to St. Mary's Church in Bernburg for reconstruction.

Hiking

Built with a late Romanesque west transept tower, sandstone columns and a cube capital, a baroque hood was added in 1662, which was provided with a pointed top in 1770. The oldest bronze bell dates from 1482. In 1864 the nave was rebuilt. Source: information board on the building
