Centrally located the Osteria Da Nico. There is a larger stud next to it.

The village is surrounded by wooded areas about 3 kilometers north-west of Pyrbaum. The Hembach, a tributary of the Rednitz, flows through it. In the village it is fed from the right by two nameless streams.

East of the village is the Stockweiher, fed by the Hembach.

The district road NM 17 runs through Oberhembach to Pyrbaum.

It was first mentioned in 1350. At that time, the von Rindsmaul family, a Nuremberg bourgeois family, sold the village of "Hennenbach" to their relatives in Wolfstein, as had Pyrbaum in 1278.

In 1815 the rural community of Oberhembach was founded. The towns of Asbach, Birkenlach, Neuhof, Oberhembach and Pruppach belonged to it. On October 1, 1970, it was incorporated into the Pyrbaum market.

Due to the not very fertile sandy soil, the inhabitants of Oberhembach had to feed themselves with the forest. This was certainly a dominant economic imperative. In the years from 1845 to 1880 a large part of the forests was sold to the Faber family. The forest no longer played such a big role in Oberhembach. At that time, the entire towns of Asbach, Birkenlach (altogether 25 houses at the time) and Dürrenhembach (already in Middle Franconia back then) also went to the Faber family.
