The Calypso Grotto, a mighty rock arch, forms the auditorium of the ruin theater, which was built in 1747 and has been preserved to this day. The orchestra pit, the backdrop arches and the rear wall are made of rubble stones. The mini theater with 86 seats is used by various regional theater groups, including the Studiobühne Bayreuth, for performances in July and August.

In the incomparable ambience of the small Rococo theater, the audience feels transported into the world of the 18th century. The way to the natural stage in Buchenhain is signposted and suitable for wheelchair users and people with walking difficulties.

At the foot of the Belvedere rock next to the siren and calypso grotto is the only preserved staffage the ruins and grotto theater. Due to its location immediately in front of the orchestra pit of the ruins theater and its expansion, the calypso grotto was usable as a rain-proof auditorium. Even today, theatrical performances still take place in this special atmosphere of the rock garden.

Absolutely worth seeing complex, very nice "rock theater" with different figures in the arches and columns. Due to its size, the calypsogrotto could be used as a rain-proof auditorium.

A stone staircase leads up to the "Belvedere" to the "beautiful view". The Belvedere was a pleasure house that no longer exists and the view on the rock is also severely restricted by the tree vegetation (status 09/2020).

Simply beautiful to look at again and again. Theater performances also take place here.

Here the path leads through the rock garden past the "Siren Grotto", a rather inconspicuous, small grotto at the edge of the path.

Here the path leads through the rock garden past the "Sybil grotto". There is also a seat for a short break.

The rock garden is the hotspot of the region. Great backdrop for cool photos. The circuit is beautifully landscaped, free entry and ample parking.

The caves were given by Margravine Wilhelmine of Bayreuth exclusively names from Greek and Roman mythology.

In 1746, at the behest of Margravine Wilhelmine von Bayreuth, the work on the ruins and grotto theater was modeled after the Bayreuth ruin theater in the rock garden of Sanspareil.

Today, however, is still the ruin theater - a mixture of grotto and ruin. The auditorium is under a powerful natural rock arch; The orchestra pit, the backdrop arches and the back wall are made of quarry stones.

Unfortunately, many of the buildings no longer exist, but the ruin theater has been well preserved and is beautiful to look at.

We got inspired and were rewarded with a wonderful hike. We were there on 21.10.17, the autumn forest is already a highlight in itself, but unfortunately the beer garden season is already over. The gastronomic possibilities were unfortunately only limited available. No problem - we could rely on our travel catering. Thanks for bringing.

You can see a lot of details here and you can't stop looking. The whole park is accessible free of charge and is also suitable for wheelchair users and prams. The many rocks and grottos are ready for a little adventure.

The name refers to a Greek god of forest and pasture. Presumably, the ledge was only named after this horned deity in the 19th century. Around the rock of love, many paths were designed as arcades with the peculiarity that they ran straight for a few meters and then changed direction in a bend.(Source: board on site)
