The Calypso Grotto, a mighty rock arch, forms the auditorium of the ruin theater, which was built in 1747 and has been preserved to this day. The orchestra pit, the backdrop arches and the rear wall are made of rubble stones. The mini theater with 86 seats is used by various regional theater groups, including the Studiobühne Bayreuth, for performances in July and August.
In the incomparable ambience of the small Rococo theater, the audience feels transported into the world of the 18th century. The way to the natural stage in Buchenhain is signposted and suitable for wheelchair users and people with walking difficulties.

At the foot of the Belvedere rock next to the siren and calypso grotto is the only preserved staffage the ruins and grotto theater. Due to its location immediately in front of the orchestra pit of the ruins theater and its expansion, the calypso grotto was usable as a rain-proof auditorium. Even today, theatrical performances still take place in this special atmosphere of the rock garden.

We got inspired and were rewarded with a wonderful hike. We were there on 21.10.17, the autumn forest is already a highlight in itself, but unfortunately the beer garden season is already over. The gastronomic possibilities were unfortunately only limited available. No problem - we could rely on our travel catering. Thanks for bringing.

The name refers to a Greek god of forest and pasture. Presumably, the ledge was only named after this horned deity in the 19th century. Around the rock of love, many paths were designed as arcades with the peculiarity that they ran straight for a few meters and then changed direction in a bend.(Source: board on site)
