Until 1901, opposite the Gasthaus Goldener Schwan in Wölkendorf, stood a small chapel with brick walls built in 1655. This chapel was based on the lords of Giech zu Thurnau, who belonged to Protestantism. When these insisted on old rights regarding the chapel, even though in Wölkendorf all were Catholic, the pastor of Stadelhofen had to ask the prince-bishop of Bamberg for help. In 2005, the year of the 100th anniversary of the consecration of today's neo-Romanesque chapel, a plan was made on a smaller scale according to an old drawing. The wooden chapel was built on behalf of the community of participants Wölkendorf-Pfaffendorf and built in 2008 to complete the land consolidation and village renewal. The small, pretty chapel is not closed and looks forward to every visitor who ignites a candle there.

I don't know what became of the chapel in 1901. However, the current location in the open countryside is wonderful. A wooden bench in front of the chapel invites you to linger. In the chapel there is an old prayer book from the 19th century and meditation texts.

The designation "pilgrimage" chapel according to the information panel at the chapel is probably not accurate, since the simple figure of St. Wolfgang inside the chapel does not give rise to any special religious veneration.
