The cath. Parish Church St. Justinus is the baroque town church of Alzenau. It was built between 1757 and 1760 on the town's market square, but was inaugurated before completion in 1758.

The construction followed an earlier church building on a hill opposite Alzenau Castle, which was demolished in 1754 due to dilapidation. In terms of its architectural design and furnishings, the red sandstone building is a typical example of the architectural style at the time of the Archbishops of Kurmainz in Lower Franconia.

With the consecration of the church in honor of the martyr Justin the Confessor, the Alzenau build a bridge until 834. At that time, the Archbishop of Mainz, Otgar, brought the bones of the saint from Rome. They first came to the Justinuskirche in Höchst am Main and from there in 1298 to the St. Alban Abbey near Mainz. Part of the relic also ended up in the monastery near the Einhard Basilica of Seligenstadt. 🚴‍♂️
