Alzenau Castle

The Alzenau Castle is located northeast on a hill above the city. Due to its geographic location at Bavaria's most north-westerly gate, it has a special role to play here - in a sense, "at the very front in Bavaria". She welcomes visitors from neighboring Hesse in Bavaria and gets them in the mood for a visit to the popular Alzenau wine towns, among other things.

Castle tours

The Lower Burghof is generally accessible at all times during the day, the Upper Burghof is open during events. The hall is opened for events and guided tours, individually after registering at the city information center in the town hall. Group tours of up to 15 people cost 25 euros. Each additional person (up to a maximum of 25 people) costs 2 euros.

In the lower courtyard, the first stop on the castle tour, the history of the district court and its predecessor buildings is briefly discussed, as well as the history of the Märkerding and the free court. The Middle Ages become even livelier in the so-called Upper Burghof when the visitor learns about the 14 m high and 5 m thick shield wall and a wooden staircase that could be broken off when the enemy attacked.
The actual living room of the lord of the castle and his family was in the knight's hall on the 2nd floor of the palas. When looking at the chimney, the chapel bay (a miniature version of a castle chapel and a jewel of this hall) as well as the kitchen and toilet bay, the visitor is transported back to the late Gothic period.
