The name "Wiesbütt" is derived from "Bütte" - a tub-shaped vessel. The Wiesbütt is a trough-shaped meadow valley bottom in which seepage water has collected over thousands of years and thus contributed to the formation of moors. The seepage water from the Wiesbüttmoor is now collected in the Wiesbüttsee. Before this lake was created, the water seeped underground into the Schwarzbach, which drains in the direction of Bieber and Lochborn.
The vegetation of the Wiesbüttmoor consists of moor grass and small tufts of cotton grass.
