The Cancrin family of engineers from Hesse-Kassel was a stroke of luck for mining in Bieber in 1741. Father Johann Heinrich brought mining up to date. In the period 1899 - 1905 the "Upper Machine Shaft" was driven more than 100m deep into the ground via Bieber in the direction of Wiesbütt. It was the highest pit of the Bieber mines. The promotion was maintained from 1905 - 1914. The ores were transported down the valley by a small train to the nearest Lochborn shaft. The route of this railway, on which the carriages had to be braked hard during the journey, still exists and today serves as a hiking trail and biker trail. The route can be walked and driven on directly above Lochborn. It runs near the road up to the Wiesbütt. Be sure to pay attention!
