A palace not for kings, but for the merchant association, built from 1842 in the neoclassical style. It had its own jurisdiction, dealing only with trade matters. This demonstrates the importance of merchants in the city.

The palace was built on the walls of a Franciscan monastery. The associated church still exists.

Works continue here to this day, which is why the building is only accessible with a guided tour.
