In the 16th century the tower still had a wooden battlement and a magnificently designed roof. It was the representative entrance gate to the city on the city moat, which was spanned by a bridge.
In 1862 the tower was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style and got its eponymous light paint

The White Tower was erected in the south of the city as part of the expansion of the city fortifications around 1350. At the Red Tower, the city wall bends at a right angle to the west (towards the mountain). This southern section of the southern suburb's fortifications was secured by two shell towers and a moat. One of the shell towers was demolished between 1828 and 1830 during the construction of Liebfrauenstrasse. The other tower is the White Tower. As a gate tower, the White Tower thus formed the southern entrance to the expanded Oberwesel old town.

Hiking

The tower from 1500 was a city gate with a bridge over the city moat and had a wooden battlement.
After the renovation in 1862/63, the tower was plastered and painted yellow.
