I really enjoy doing this route to the Bülker lighthouse on Fridays: you can review the week, make plans for the weekend and smell and hear the sea. Nice!

Before our city tour in Marburg, we made a round through the forest below the university clinic. It had rained at night and was noticeably cooler: the air there was wonderful. After a detour to the botanical garden, we found ourselves on a main road that had to be crossed. That was stupid, but it was mastered 🙄
Then it went over the Lahn up to the old town. The castle towers over everything and is very impressive. Then we roamed the cobblestone streets.

It's slowly going back to the north. We are just between Marburg and Gießen an der Lahn. The landscape is no longer as spectacular as on the Moselle and Rhine and the hills are much flatter, but this walk brought a good autumn mood again. Beautiful colors, lots of nature.

And another autumn day with summer weather. Brilliant. The hike from Oberwesel went more into the hinterland and was very varied: old city wall, views of the Rhine, wide fields, views of valleys, rocks, vineyards and, at the end, the Schönburg. That was a nice end to our days on the Rhine 👍🏻

We continued on quiet vineyard paths to the imposing Johannisberg Castle (Prince Metternich) and then downhill to Östrich-Winkel. We skipped another swing because the sun was relentlessly hot on the mountainside.

Today there are two parts again * sigh *. We took the ferry to Rüdesheim and took a great hike through the vineyards, where the grape harvest by machine and by hand is in full swing. The St. Hildegard Abbey impressed with its architectural style and the well-thought-out external presentation.

Komoot still had dropouts, that's why the tour looks so angular. We hiked past Katz Castle to the height, where there is a summer toboggan run and a large parking lot for Lorelei visitors. Today on Sunday it was very turbulent there. After an additional sightseeing detour, it went from the Lorelei via a stepped path back to the street and Sankt Goarshausen.

Today we went on a sightseeing tour again: from St. Goar with the ferry to the other side and from there up to the view of the Three Castles. It's really great to see the Rhine and the old castles of Katz, Maus and Rheinstein from there. I still haven't understood why people keep talking about the romantic Rhine. The time when these castles were built was anything but romantic.
From the height it went down completely before the next incline (luckily in the shade) was climbed.
And because I struggled with Komoot today (the recording always stopped), the second part of the tour comes under Rhein 2b 😖

Rest day: Today we explored the area around our hotel in the best weather: on the banks of the Rhine in the Hindenburg complex is a beautiful promenade with contemporary sculptures, there we walked over the Nahe tributary to the Mäuseturm and then through the pedestrian zone to Klopp Castle and then on on the Höhenweg to Kempten and back on the Rhine.

Today we went to Eltz Castle on the “Eltzer Burgpanorama” hiking trail. It was never destroyed, looks very nice and is in a nice area.
The path runs along the edge of the field and in the deciduous forest, partly along the babbling Eltzbach. Because the queue was very long, we decided not to visit the castle.
So it went over a sweaty ascent and along many apple and pear trees back to the car.
