In 1346 a church in Buchholz was first mentioned in a document. However, no traces of it have survived in the 21st century. During the Second World War the church was badly damaged and burned out. The reconstruction took several decades and was completed with a new coat of paint in the 2000s.

In the middle of the 18th century, a wooden church was replaced by a half-timbered building that burned down a little later.
