The square Kohlturm, also called the Kahlturm, is part of the city wall of Rothenburg, but here the wall is no longer raised and roofed. The tower was completed in 1390 and is a great vantage point.

The coal tower at the end of the covered walkway was built in a 5-year construction period (1385 - 1390). He served to secure the outer gate with adjoining guard and customs house and was also called "Kahlenturm".
