One of the most famous and recognizable monuments of Szczecin. The Royal Gate in Szczecin is a historic city gate from 1725-1728, designed by the Dutch engineer Gerhard Cornelius van Wallrawe. Originally called Anklamer Tor, it changed its name to its current name after the war. It is distinguished by sculptures of Mars and Hercules and the Prussian eagle, works by the court sculptor of Frederick William I. During World War II, the decorations were hidden to protect them. The gate was renovated in 1994, and now houses the Wedel chocolate pump room. It is entered into the register of monuments.

In the Great Northern War, after the siege of Stettin in 1713, in the Peace of Stockholm in 1720, Friedrich Wilhelm I bought back parts of Western Pomerania, which had fallen to the Swedes at the end of the Thirty Years' War in the Peace of Westphalia, in a purchase agreement. As a reminder of the happy return of the Duchy of Stettin, he had the magnificent portal built when the fortress at Anklamer Tor was being rebuilt. Source: Wikipedia

Imposing but small gate as part of the fortress.
