The St. Michaelskirche in Rasch is a building from the late 11th or early 12th century, the tower in the upper part is late medieval. In 1711 the long house was extended to the west. The portal porch and the sacristy were built in the 18th century. The gate tower of the churchyard fortification was demolished in 1884. The construction time of the shepherd's chapel, which stands behind the church, has not survived. The 14th century is suspected.

This church in Rasch / Altdorf near Nuremberg is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, the name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?" He is often depicted - in paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, sometimes a lance. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day is September 29th.
