To the holy Veit von Staffelstein ... under this motto today we went through the country around the Main. Fantastic weather and dreamlike landscape. On the way, the Metzgerbräu village shop invites you to stop. So you can drink a delicious Saidla (but out of plastic cups) despite Corona ...
A varied hike with always great views. Absolutely recommendable!

Hike up, over and around the whale bala The Catholic St. Walburgis Chapel, which stands on the Walbala, gave the mountain its name. It was built in the 17th century and is dedicated to St. Walburga. The name was first mentioned in a document in Erlangen in 1768, by local students ("go to Walberla ...")
From Walbala we went to the sintered terraces of Leutenbach and the
St. Moritz Chapel. Mentioned for the first time in 1465, it is equipped with a Baroque altar and an early Gothic gallery. Unfortunately the chapel was closed when we visited. The little church is framed by a hexagonal protective wall. Inside is the Hundsboden cemetery.
It goes up the mountain via a path. From here you have a great view over to the whale bala. On the front slope is a medieval castle, Burgstein Castle. Apart from a rampart and a beautiful view, there isn't much to see. However, some information boards explain well what the facility once looked like.
It went on to Hetzelsdorf. The neo-Gothic St. Matthew's Church, built or inaugurated in 1901, is worth seeing. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century so large that all evangelical believers from the Trubach valley from Pretzfeld to Oberzaunsbach and from the mountains to the left and right, from Buckenreuth to Seidmar, fit in. In Hetzelsdorf, of course, the Penning-Zeißler brewery has to be mentioned. Unfortunately closed today due to corona. For thirsty hikers like us, there was still beer in self-service ...
Then it went back through autumn-colored forest, back over to and over whale bala.
Conclusion: A scenic hike that also offers a number of sights.

Out and about in the vineyards of the Mainschleife near Volkach. The constitutional column near Gaibach is particularly worth seeing on this hike. It is located in the park of the Gaibach Castle on the hill of the Sonnenberg. This column, built in 1828, was completely unknown to me.
