Please check local regulations for: Lake District National Park
Tarn Crag is a rocky crown above picturesque Easedale Tarn in the heart of the Lake District National Park. From many angles, this arcing peak of modest height appears quite intimidating. The shadowy northern cliffs of Deer Bields are formidable and the rocky face that the fell is named after plunges steeply to the tarn below.
However, there are many easy ways to the sharp, craggy outcrop of its summit. The top presents you with lovely views, particularly of Easedale slowly making its way down to Grasmere, the obvious base for adventures here, with plenty of accommodation options.
Tarn Crag’s location in the centre of Lakeland means that there are a variety of ways to approach the fell and many permutations for further exploration. The land around both Easedale Tarn and the smaller Codale Tarn make for excellent wild camps, while there are half a dozen other Wainwrights within striking distance of Tarn Crag’s summit.
Tarn Crag is a Wainwright in the Lake District National Park. There are a wealth of sheep trods and paths up here and it can be a bit of challenge to navigate in bad weather. On a good day, the views are well worth the hike. There are lots of circular walk options that incorporate Tarn Crag from Grasmere village.
