The Dean's Church of the Assumption was built in 1844-1848 in eclectic Neo-Byzantine style. The plan of the basilica, which was built on the site of the Chapel of the Nativity of Mary from 1820, Johann Gottfried Gutensohn has worked out from Munich. The building itself was designed by the Tepl Monastery architect Anton Thurner von Přimda with the help of a Prague master builder. The church was consecrated in 1848 by Abbot Heinl and in 1850 the church was consecrated by Cardinal Archbishop of Schwarzenberg.
