There is an information board on the Pützchen that reads:
The Pützchen is an ancient place of prayer and Marian pilgrimage. According to tradition, Saint Lambertus baptized at a spring that still exists today in the seventh century. The spring is considered the "Willibrodus spring" and because of the healing water, the Pützchen became a popular place of pilgrimage.
The age and origin of a miraculous image of the sorrowful mother are unknown. A first pilgrimage is documented in 1718, a first stone bed house was built in 1795. Around 1850 the fountain (Pütz) was bordered and a chapel was built over it, which was extended in 1933.
