If the water is too shallow, beavers usually build a dam. For various reasons.
This enables them to solve various problems:
+ so that the entrances to the buildings are always under water, the beavers need a water depth of about half a meter,
+ Regularly changing water levels are balanced
+ the living space is expanded by the larger water surface,
+ Wood can be easily transported over water.

Beavers did their work on a bridge near Wildenrath and dammed the Schaagbach. Within about a year, the industrious animals have formed a large lake out of a small brook, and if they are not disturbed too much, the dam and lake become even larger. The beavers' tracks can be seen everywhere with the gnawed tree trunks. Perhaps one or the other will spot one of the shy animals here.
