Tips

  • Andreas Platzl

A swampy, boggy terrain extends in the Dutch side of the National Park de Meinweg. To best cross this protected area, walk along the wide wooden walkway that meanders through the bog forest. The whole thing has something of a jungle expedition.

Important for dog owners: Dogs are not allowed on this stretch over the boardwalks.

In particular, the way over the boardwalks has something special. Something you will not find in the area so often. Great way.

The boardwalk is not released for dogs. We therefore recommend hikers with dogs to walk the footbridge. Passing the wooden bridge, after about 60m on the left, a hiking trail passes. Follow this, after about 300m is the wooden walkway - section circled.

Beautiful path over the boardwalks through the marshy terrain. To reduce the risk of slipping due to moisture, the wooden boards have been covered with chain link fence. In "oncoming traffic" it can be on the jetty ever close.

Narrow wooden walkway over a marshy section, allows beautiful views of flora and fauna

Mystical atmosphere at the footbridges as the fog drifts through the forest in autumn.

The bars are covered with rabbit wire to prevent slipping. Nevertheless, be sure and attentive on wet days!

Both entrances are provided with a wooden gate (height approx. 1.9 m). Meaning that riders should take a detour ... 🐴😉

The swampy forest area through which the boardwalk leads is a small part of the quarry forest through which the Helpensteiner Bach / Rodebach flows. The whole thing is under nature protection and may only be entered via the wooden walkway.

The bridge is quite long. Easy to walk on thanks to the rabbit wire even in damp weather. If there is a dog with you, please watch out for damaged areas because of the paws.

It goes through the swampy forest. A path made of wooden walkways meanders here, on which you can cross the boggy terrain with dry feet. Further information can be found at: netreisetagebuch.de/wanderung-nationalpark-de-meinweg
