On July 6, 2016, Nintendo released the mobile game Pokémon Go, a hunt for virtual characters in real space, which has since then been played by predominantly young players. The gathering of hunters on the Girardet Bridge on Königsallee, initiated by the game developers, received widespread media coverage, even across the region. The onslaught of actors became so strong that the city decided at the end of July 2016 to close the bridge to car traffic and set up two mobile toilets. On August 10th of that year, “the city pulled the emergency brake” and asked game developer Niantic to shut down three of the four PokéStops. About a month later, the PokéStops were then reduced to two.
