Schöntal station consisted of the main track and a siding. Originally, the goods shed was also connected to a dead-end track. A small coal bunker and a water crane were built in Schöntal in the 1980s for the museum operation.

Until 1988, the Jagst Valley Railway was operated as a single-track narrow-gauge railway (750 mm track width). It was 39.2 km long and ran from Möckmühl to Dörzbach along the Jagst.
Several attempts to revive it as an excursion and tourist railway failed because some towns along the railway rejected renovation as too expensive and too complex.
The Schöntal station is now operated as a restaurant.
