On May 7, 1897, a friend of the Duke of Arenberg was shot in a hunting accident in Schleiden Forest. The Duke had a chapel built on the site, which was consecrated, furnished, painted and given a Gothic oak altar in 1899 to St. Edward (patron saint of the casualty). In 1977 the chapel was badly devastated by unknown perpetrators. With the restoration it was placed under monument protection. The lonely gem in the middle of the forest is now an impressive hiking and pilgrimage destination.

Very nice chapel located in the middle of the forest and therefore actually only accessible for pedestrians. The chapel has been a listed building since 1987 and was extensively restored in 1992. A visit is definitely worthwhile, especially since some tables and benches in front of the chapel offer an ideal resting place.
