If you believe the topographical map here, then the meandering Olef crosses the German/Belgian border twice in quick succession at this point! 🫵😄

"The Olef rises on the Ramscheiderhöhe, close to the Zitterwald, about 2.2 km southwest of Hollerath at an altitude of 639 m above sea level, directly on the border between Belgium and Germany.
From here it first flows in a north-westerly direction and flows through the Dreiherren forest. The valley of the Olef forms the state border here, which runs along the river. From the confluence of the Wiesbach it reaches Germany. ..."

Maps without knowledge are wrong! While the border between Belgium and Germany is depicted with simplified lines, the legally valid border lies in the middle of the meandering waterway. Komoot simply uses geodata from OpenStreetMap, compiled by two million uncertified volunteers. In contrast, the state maps of North Rhine-Westphalia cleverly show both: the simplification and the subtleties. t1p.de/of8gx

This oldest foundation area is located in the German-Belgian border area in the Eifel in North Rhine-Westphalia. At the last moment, one of the last occurrences of the wild daffodil (flower of the year 1981) was saved here. Other rare species include the Bärwurz and the Golden Fritillary. Belgian and German conservationists have been working together here in an exemplary manner for decades. A daffodil festival regularly invites visitors to visit the blossoms.
