Christian Ernst of Brandenburg-Bayreuth (born July 27, 1644 in Bayreuth; died May 10, 1712 in Erlangen) was a German military leader and Margrave of the Franconian Principality of Bayreuth from 1655 until his death.

The equestrian statue of Margrave Christian Ernst remained unfinished for structural reasons. While the base architecture was designed by the architect Paul Decker, the sculptor Elias Räntz created the equestrian statue in the years 1711/12 from a single block of sandstone from the quarries of the castle hill.

The monument commemorates the margrave's participation in the Turkish wars and shows him on horseback in full armour. Below him are a Turk and Invidia, the personification of envy. The famous equestrian statue of the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg by Andreas Schlueter in front of Charlottenburg Palace served as a model.

The badly weathered sculpture was vandalized several times and has been protected by a fence since 1996.
