The "Old Castle" is the oldest surviving residential building in the city. It was built in 1669 as the White Castle of the noble Lords Gans zu Putlitz. Today, the city museum welcomes visitors to interesting permanent and special exhibitions. Museum guests can also visit the nearby stone gate in Wittenberg's old town.
In the city museum, you can relive the history of Wittenberg, from its origins as a farming town, through its role as an industrial location to the center of the Elbe Valley tourist region.
The permanent exhibition, which opened in 2012, is very varied.
You can learn about the development of the city through display boards, paintings and video sequences. At the same time, there are many historical artifacts to marvel at, such as a polyphon (the original form of the jukebox). The rooms on the upper floor are modeled on living and school rooms from times gone by. Here you can immerse yourself in the worlds of the 19th and 20th centuries. museum.de/museen/stadtmuseum-alte-burg-wittenberge
