The Schweinheimer Kirchel was first mentioned in 1051 when Emperor Heinrich III gave it to the bishops of Speyer with the village of Schweinheim. In the 14th century, numerous Schweinheimers settled in the fortified Jockgrim and also took the stones for their houses as building material. The Schweinheimer Kirchel is the only remnant of the Franconian settlement of Schweinheim. It is dedicated to Saint Pancratius and the Virgin Mary and has become a popular place of pilgrimage. The church festival is celebrated every year on July 2 at 10:00 a.m. after the preliminary rosary prayer with a pilgrimage service

The deserted village of Schweinheim, with its chapel that emerged from the remains of the church, is a place of power for many. The suffix "-Heim" suggests a Frankish origin. Unlike so many others in the area, the village wasn't abandoned because of the Rhine, which repeatedly washed away settlements. Instead, there were times when people sought refuge from marauding bands in fortified towns. One such town, Jockgrim, was nearby. The inhabitants of Schweinheim relocated there, taking the stones from their houses with them. Only the church remained standing and later became a pilgrimage site.
