Ippinghausen has existed since at least 1120 (originally as Ypponhuson). However, it is assumed that the place, like the Weidelsburg, is significantly older. Nevertheless, Ippinghausen did not exist continuously, but was only a deserted area in 1435.

The fairytale land path runs through the village. In the center next to the evangelical church (unfortunately closed) there is also a covered model of the Weidelsburg, how it is supposed to have looked. Also worth seeing is the large window front of an antique shop.
