The exposed rock in Mühlenholz is called Bielstein or Bildstein. It is one of a series of remarkable sandstones, which are surrounded by legends about devils, giants and their stone throwing. Description These are mighty sandstone rocks of the Middle Bunter Sandstone of the Solling Sequence, which lie here in the forest. They were formed around 245 million years ago. At that time, today's Europe was still on the subcontinent of Pangaea, near the equator. Dinosaurs lived in desert-like conditions with shallow pools and lakes, traces of which were found in the stony sand near Wolfhagen. The surface of the sandstones has taken on a honeycomb-like structure as a result of weather influences over thousands of years. This phenomenon is particularly impressive in Bildstein. With a lot of imagination, you can read pictures from it and this is possibly how the sandstone cliff got its name. But "Bil" also means something like rock point, so the name is more likely derived from this. The Bildstein is a comprehensive natural monument and therefore of particular importance.Another example is the giant stone in Heimarshausen.Source:grimmheimat.de/media/attraktionen/bildstein-im-muehlenholz#/article/a095a56c-80c1-4ca5-8821-9862f4bba565
