The new Ratskeller building (today the town hall) on the south side of the market square (Marktplatz 2 / Schmeerstraße 1) was built between 1891 and 1893 on the site of the old Ratskeller and the Pfännerstube as a municipal meeting, meeting and festival building. The building is a mixture of neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance, the architect was Emil Schreiterer from Cologne.
The commercial arcades on the ground floor were occupied in the first half of 1893, and the Ratskeller restaurant opened on October 1, 1893.

Stone coat of arms on the main portal with lion figures on the right and left. The main portal is in the Halle Renaissance style and shows the Halle city coat of arms in the crown with two lions as coat of arms holders and the inscription “ANNO DOMINI MDCCCLXXXXII” - i.e. H. in the year of the Lord 1892. It is a listed landmark of the city of Halle (Saale).
