The Leipzig Tower is a free-standing Wartturm, which belonged to the fortification of the city of Halle (Saale). He was the largest tower in the city's fortifications. It stands on the Leipziger Straße, where it crosses the ring roads (= former course of the city wall) between market place and main station.

The medieval city fortifications once stood where the traffic roars on Halle's old town ring road today. Consisting of three consecutive walls, ditches, defense towers and gates, it was intended to protect the city from unwanted intruders. Having become useless in this sense, it had to give way to urban expansion in the 19th century. The Leipzig Tower is the most striking of the few remains. Built in 1450 at the former Galgtor, its height of 44 meters testifies to its former function as an observation tower.

The Gothic pointed arches of the windows and the door, combined with the hood, clockwork and skylights from the Renaissance period, make the Leipzig tower an architectural landmark of a special kind.

Inside the tower there is an exhibition on the history of the building and medieval crafts, which can be visited as part of a guided tour.

The free-standing watchtower was built in the middle of the 15th century. The windows and doorway are Gothic-style, while the dome is Renaissance-style. A striking point is the tower clock.
