Located in the heart of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, the Grosser Kraftwerk Mannheim AG (GKM) produces electricity for more than 2.5 million people, commerce and industry as well as district heating for around 120,000 households. In addition, DB Energie GmbH purchases about 15 percent of the German railway power from the GKM. As a result of the commissioning of Block 9 in May 2015, GKM has become the largest energy location in Baden-Württemberg and contributes significantly to the security of supply in southern Germany.
