Immediately below the Raichberg area, on the Gewann Bödemle, the Schwäbische Albverein, OG Onstmettingen, has erected a show charcoal kiln. Wood charcoal was burned at this spot until the mid-19th century. An information board describes the history of charcoal burning and iron ore mining in Albstadt. Every year in autumn, on the occasion of the shepherd's festival (Schäferfest), a real charcoal kiln is set on fire and harvested, meaning the charcoal is recovered after about 8 days.
