Best Hikes to View from Kohlwinkelfelsen

Tips

  • The Kohlwinkel Rock near Albstadt-Onstmettingen is a popular vantage point on the Zollernburg Panorama Trail. From here, a sweeping view opens up over the Killer Valley all the way to Jungingen. On clear days, you can even make out the Salmendingen Chapel on the horizon. The rock is nestled in a diverse landscape and is ideal for a rest with a panoramic view. A small symbol shows hikers the way to this special spot along the ridge.

  • The Kohlwinkel rock is located on the Zollernburg-Panorama eaves, north of the Gockeler between the Bärentäle and the Eibensteig in Albstadt-Onstmettingen. The beautiful panoramic view towards Jungingen and Killertal will inspire you. The Salmendinger chapel also flashes on the horizon.
In addition to the beautiful panoramic view, the place is also a monument to a cruel past...
Coal was burned in the Kohlwinkel area in the early 19th century and there was a great famine. The misery of the people was so great that families could not always feed their children. Even before the birth of her fifth offspring, the pregnant "Stoffelbärbel" had great difficulty feeding her children. In 1826 she therefore decided to throw her eldest child, the then 10-year-old Anna Maria, off the Kohlwinkelfelsen.
Of course, at that time infanticide was also a punishable offense and Stoffelbärbel was arrested. Legends tell that she could not cope with the whole event and therefore ended her life with her own braid.
A black hand, a cross and the year 1826 can still be seen below the Kohlwinkel rock today. A small "black hand" symbol shows you the way. You also have a beautiful view, just to enjoy! 👍🤩
