The Henrichenburg is a former castle in the former community named after it Henrichenburg, a district of Castrop-Rauxel. The place of the castle complex is today directly on the bank of the Rhine-Herne Canal east of the southern access ramp of the Wartburgstrasse bridge over the canal.
In the course of time the location of the former castle fell into oblivion. In the 1990s, the city of Castrop-Rauxel bought the site from the Fürstin-Franziska-Christine-Stiftung in Essen and planned a development with single-family houses. When construction began, the remains of the former castle were found. The construction work was stopped and the area was archaeologically examined and refurbished.
At the end of the archaeological work, the remains in the ground were covered with soil and a park was created on top of it. The floor plans of the walls were reproduced in the area of the castle with hedges. A wooden bridge leads over a virtual moat and in the area in front of it paving shows the former course of the walls.
