The aim is to connect the four cities with each other along the Emscher, which will be free of wastewater by 2020, over a length of 18 kilometers with the "Blue-Green Belt". Based on a continuous system of paths with promenades, balconies and bridges over the Emscher, new recreational areas will be created in the four cities, districts and sights will be linked and existing leisure areas will be upgraded.
