Hiking Highlight
The old town hall on today's Niederwall has been the official seat of the mayor since 1904. Around 1,000 symbolic and pictorial representations testify to the importance of the building as a municipal building, calendar building and stone teaching building of Christian Freemasonry.
Except for the tower, the town hall remained undestroyed during the Second World War. Mainly planned by the town planning officer Ritscher, the architectural style is a reception of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture.
On the ground floor, a model shows the city of Bielefeld around 1650. Also noteworthy are the fountain with Neptune as the planet of fate (mascaron) and the planet Venus (shell) as the patroness of marriage and all lovers.

In reality, Bielefeld doesn't even exist. A secret place in vanilla and chocolate flavored pudding powder. Anyone who finds it anyway is not just an "Expert" or a "Pioneer", but rather
a professional par excellence.

Here in the afternoon sun in January, it is worth to take a closer look, after the heads in the Fasadebund when it is open is worth a look.

<< Old Town Hall Bielefeld >>
"The so-called Old Town Hall of Bielefeld was built between 1902 and 1904 according to the plans of the city building officer Ritscher. After a municipal reform in 1972, during which Bielefeld's population had almost doubled, the construction of the New Town Hall was initiated right next to the historic building The complex was realized in the years 1979-1988.The Old Town Hall is by no means the oldest town hall in the city. Before the city administration moved into the building in 1904, it was located in the current seat of the theater on the market. It is assumed that a town hall building existed on the site of the theater as early as the 13th century, the vaulted cellar of which has probably been preserved. Between 1538 and 1569 this gave way to a new high-gothic building. In 1821, instead of the Gothic town hall, a larger, classical building was built, which now also housed the judiciary and police. In view of the steadily increasing population due to industrialization, it was finally decided to build a new town hall. This was designed as a coherent ensemble with the municipal theater. However, while the town hall was designed in the Neo-Renaissance style with individual Gothic elements, the city theater to the east is characterized by a mix of styles from Art Nouveau and Neo-Baroque. The two complexes are connected by a bridge. In addition to the city administration, the city hall also housed the police administration and the city savings bank. The exterior design with rich, ornamental decor, side and roof gables, bay windows, bay windows and balconies refers to the historical Bielefeld building tradition. In addition, several details point to the involvement of Freemasons."Author: baukunst-nrw editorial team, 06/16/2020
