The Lekdreef, as it is called in local parlance, has existed longer than most of those who come here today to buy and "lek" their ice cream. The tradition of stopping at the Lekdreef on a pilgrimage to Scherpenheuvel began in 1928. But it wasn't just ice cream that was sold in those days. You could also get fruit, sweets and drinks there. The super-popular TV series 'Wij, Heren van Zichem' that was shown in Belgium and the Netherlands in the late sixties (and regularly repeated), only made the Lekdreef more famous, although the link with that past has been forgotten.
