The Demerbroeken form an extensive piece of nature in the broad valley of the Demer, between Testelt, Zichem, Averbode and Diest.The area was mainly used as hay land and peat cutters also made their appearance, witness beautiful remains in the form of fens and quaking bogs. The Agency for Nature and Forest and Natuurpunt vzw worked together in the Demerbroeken on the development of the extensive nature reserve.
