The cast-iron figure of the Cupid, shaped from an antique sculpture in the Electoral Collection in Dresden, originally stood in a "Greek" temple, surrounded by poplars and "roses, jesmin and other fragrant shrubs in a lovely mixture" (Becker, 1792).
Cupid holds two hourglasses in his hands. The inscription on the sandstone slab explains:
"An hourglass in every hand I see the Cupid!
How? the reckless god! does he measure time twice?
Slowly flee from a lover hours away
At present the second flows down hastily ”
