The Berner Au rises west of Volksdorf and flows as a small stream through Berne and Farmsen until it flows into the Wandse near Tonndorf after around 8.5 kilometers.
The stream has been partially renatured and offers picturesque natural scenes. The route is signposted with the yellow arrow symbols of the Northern Germany Hiking Association.
A hiking map is available from the Wandsbek district office; it points to many green excursion destinations for garden and nature fans. The path along the Berner Au is freely accessible.
