The beautiful, detailed carved altar with the miraculous image of the Sorrowful Mother stood in the Mariawald monastery church from 1520 to 1804, then in the Heimbach parish church of St. Clemens and since 1981 in the pilgrimage church of Christ Salvator.

In the church, the Heimbacher Pietà is kept in a valuable Antwerp carved altar. It is a representation of Mary with the body of Jesus removed from the cross in her arms. The picture probably dates from the middle of the 15th century.
